While on February 14, half of humanity is tormented by thoughts of what gift to give to their loved one on Valentine’s Day, and the other half tries in every possible way to ignore this holiday, a special moment is coming for the winemakers of Bessarabia. It is February 14 in many Balkan countries that honors Saint Tryphon – the patron saint of winegrowers and winemakers, and it is from this date that a new cycle of vine formation traditionally begins.
On this day, Villa Tinta opened its doors to guests. And not only to the wine cellar, but also to the roof of the winery, from where a wonderful view of Yalpug Lake and the surrounding area opens, an impression of which is definitely worth consolidating with a glass of Brut or Rosé from the Tintarella line, which we actually did.
According to the ancient custom, all the guests participated in grape pruning. Now each of our guests can really call themselves involved in the creation of Villa Tinta wines!
And in the new tasting room, our guests were awaited by both well-known wines from the Villa Tinta collection and aromatic novelties: Irasai Oliver and Gewurtztraminer. Pies, cabbage rolls and dolma, bryndza, shurpa and kavarma – dishes of local cuisine, performances of local groups and fiery Bulgarian dances – celebrate so celebrate!
The fun continued at the festival of Bessarabian traditions in Bolgrad: a fair in the central square, even more national dishes, dances and songs, and of course an endless sea of wine from both local amateurs and professional winemakers.
For the first time, participants of the “Wine and Taste Road of Danube Bessarabia” (tourist route project from Geographical Indications in Ukraine/Geographical Indications in Ukraine) gathered together at a festival event.
The opening of the holiday began with the parade of Tryphons and the subsequent traditional rite of election of “Tsar Tryphon”. Guests could practice pumping at the speed of barrels, ride carts around the city.
Special guests from Bulgaria came to the holiday – cooks, loaded with ten-kilogram belts of bells.

And for lovers of sparkling wine, our winery specially invited a sabrage master (opening champagne with a saber) and everyone could try to open a bottle of Tintarella with one swing of the saber.
Well, as they say, it’s better to try once than to hear several times! Welcome to Villa Tinta Winery!
